The JCI LiveMap site

By JCI Mem. ANGELO DANIEL R. PARCON
2007 President and Web Development Director

Having a 24-hour internet connection at home has its perks and incredible privileges.  I know because I have one.  Aside from being able to be connected with friends at any time of the day (provided I’m home) via Facebook, lurking around twitter and multiply, chatting with people several countries away, one also has the privilege of having access to virtually anything that’s on the internet.

When I was a Junior Jaycee during my collegiate years, it was common knowledge amongst members during the conduct of Area Conferences and National Conventions, there is always an open invitation to stay longer (post AreaCon and NatCon) past the appointed duration of the gathering (much to the chagrin of our parents).  It was but natural that as students, well most of us were (then), what amount of cash or resources we brought to these out of town sorties..er..gatherings were measured to a T on how long we were staying.  Extending our stay not only meant we’d be out of cash for the rest of the duration but we had to find ways to fulfill our designated three meals a day target.

But that is where the beauty of being a Junior Jaycee is, no matter where we went, extending our stay was never a problem.  Fellow Junior Jaycees of the host location were more than willing to play our hosts for our extended stay at no expense.

Such experiences are not at a shortage when we become regular JCI members.  As JCI members, we always share stories of being able to stay and enjoy incredible hospitalities from fellow members all over the world.  While surfing the net, I came across an intrepid website that truly fulfils this incredible rapport that JCI members all over the world share.  We all have Facebook, Multiply, MySpace, even Friendster as social networking sites that pockmark the internet.  Did you know that we have a social networking site that is patterned for JCI members?

Yes we do, and it allows us to share with fellow JCI members our hospitable offerings should they decide to visit our country of origin and stay overnight at our place.  Yes, what we usually share among non-JCI members in our community about how we always have a place to stay as long as there’s a JCI local organization in the area, now has a tool for us members to use!

The site is located at http://jci.livemap.de

According to the site background:

Whenever JCs meet on international, national or regional conventions and events, they meet new business people: People like themselves. JCs often share the same professional interests, we are creative, outgoing and have wide – spread interests. On these occasions business-contacts are being made and project news are being spread. Sometimes we leave with the feeling of having just met or made good friends.

And, last but not least, most of us get to see more of the world than ever before by visiting the well known JCI conventions and events.

Now it is time to take these good views and perspectives, all of the positive input and the interesting connections to the next level: While keeping in touch with each other after shared events, a new platform will open the opportunity to always stay in touch today! Even on a personal level!

The JCI LIVEMAP COMMUNITY is the change we need to bring JCs even further.

An exclusive community website designed and created for the needs and interests of JCs only! Find old AND new business partners, re – connect with JCs you lost contact to, plan your next trip or holiday to a city where business partners of your JC community live, visit them, let them guide you through their home and see foreign cities through their eyes. Chat with project partners even if you are miles apart, exclusively share new project ideas only  with JCs you trust or are interested in as partners/ sponsors. A whole new world lies before you and it is only open to JCs worldwide.

Take your business to the next level – with people from around the world who are just like you: committed, creative, successful, effective, supporting and all-around interested!

Open yourself to this new community and new chances and opportunities will open themselves to YOU!

On a hindsight, the site is probably still on its beta stage, meaning it still needs to be perfected, and must need to conform still with JCI branding standards (referring to JCI members as JC’s still) but it’s a good start to bringing further JCI members all over the world closer to one another.

Responsible for the site conceptualization is a JCI Germany member named Roy Popiolek, who is founder and CEO of an internet company named LiveMap GmbH which is involved in developing community platforms.

According the JCI LiveMap:

“The JCI LiveMap Community is the newest and most innovative project out of this branch, but the motivation to do so was not monetarily.  As a member of the JCI, Roy Popiolek himself missed a platform where he could find and contact befriended JCI members or business-partners worldwide. It was his intention to create a space exclusively for every JCI member worldwide. Today the JCI LiveMap Community is the first platform to allow all of the JCI members to communicate easily and on a highly personal as well as professional level.”

What also sets it apart from other social networking sites is that it allows members to create ads that are featured in the website!  This among other things.  We're still on the verge of exploring all of the things that the site has to offer.  As a whole, the JCI LiveMap site is an excellent social / community networking site that brings the tenet “Brotherhood of Man transcends the sovereignty of nations” to the next level.  It is something where we, as JCI members can call our own and hopefully brings us all closer than the next Area Conference or World Congress that’s just around the corner.

So what are you waiting for?  Sign up now!

Lurking the Net hopes to bring forth interesting articles or websites around the internet that involves the JCI movement and bring this to the attention of JCI members who may find themselves wandering into our award-winning website.  Cheers from the WebDev Team of JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel!
