JCI MEMBER Marlon Ariel L. Polinar (center) will lead JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel in 2010 as President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) upon his election on September 10, 2009 at McDonald's IT Park in Apas-Lahug, Cebu City. He is proclaimed by his predecessors (from left) 2008 President Jolex Yu Lim, CLT, 2009 President Emi Rose R. Parcon, 2006 Charter President Cerwin T. Eviota, CNT (NG), and 2007 President Angelo Daniel R. Parcon.
CEBU CITY (10 September 2009) -- Another charter member of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Cebu-Mactan Channel (Philippines) has earned the mandate to lead the young organization next year. Active members of the No. 1 JCI Chapter in the Visayas for four consecutive years since acquiring its charter elected JCI Mem. Marlon Ariel L. Polinar as 2010 President. Only Polinar, Rosalie Pulido-Alvarado and Rio de la Peña are left among the original 2006 charter members who have remained active, got elected and left to serve in the incoming 2010 Board of Directors (BOD). Polinar will be serving his fourth term in the BOD, while Alvarado and De la Peña will be serving their third term. Elected with them today were Iris Vera L. Petralba and Ryan Expeditus C. Andales who joined the chapter a few weeks leading to the 2007 Cebu National Convention when they took the last JCI PRIME and became JCI trainers. Recent JCI Trainer graduate Jonelyn "Joni" A. Ocular, who joined the chapter last year, got her second term in the BOD, like Petralba. While he served as commissioner for Individual Development in 2008 for Business Development this year and has been attending BOD meetings since, Andales has yet to serve his first term in the BOD. Joining the rest of the 9-man BOD in their first term are John Rey G. Guadalquiver, Jeanette "Gnet" S. Davis and Cherryl Lyn G. Pada, all of whom joined and became very active with the chapter this year. Good mix 2006 Charter President Cerwin T. Eviota, CNT (NG), thought the incoming BOD was "a good and a balanced mix" based on the number of years those elected have been with JCI as members. "You have enough reserves for higher leadership at least in the next three to even five years," he said. He recalled that it has been the intent of the chapter's founders that the organization should serve more as a leadership mill than a fraternity club. "Leadership should not be limited to and remain in the hands of a few veterans and not pre-determined by the chapter's past leaders and so-called senior members," remarked 2007 President Angelo Daniel R. Parcon. "This is the secret of our dynamism in JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel. Young and fresh blood churn the engines of the chapter," he added. "Those who were ahead just play non-essential roles, never intervening, and only come forward when asked." 2008 President Jolex Yu Lim, CLT, explained those who have become president or senior leaders "have had our time," and that they still have other avenues in JCI to continue being involved and committed, like in training. "We don't want to grab the opportunity away from those in current leadership to experience what we had gone through that made us as leaders. It is now their time," he pointed out. 21 voters While Polinar was elected directly by the members as the next CEO of the organization after they elected the 9-man BOD, the rest of the incoming BOD members will soon agree and elect among themselves the role they will play in the Executive Committee. At least 30 members attended the 9th General Membership Meeting (GMM) of the chapter this year that served as the annual elections of the chapter. Only 21 were eligible to vote in the democratic process conducted at the second floor function room of McDonald's at the Ayala-developed Cebu Asiatown IT Park in Apas-Lahug, this city. During the election, 2009 VP Operations Irish A. Rago was nominated and supposedly got elected into the BOD for a second term. However, just as the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) would declare the winners, she declined to serve for another term, both for personal and professional reasons.
