Looking back, moving forward Vol. I, No. 01 * 07 January 2009
By JCI Mem. JOLEX YU LIM, CLT 2008 President Happy New Year! The 11 days holiday economics provided me ample quality time to spend with my family, friends and relatives, even for some personal stuff. So much with the lechon, chicharon, cake, beer and red wine that my gastro can accommodate. I wouldn’t mind much as the threadmill at Fitness First helps a lot in burning those calories. I still do have lots of vivid pictures during the longest holiday on my digital camera that still needs to be printed. But it’s back to work now!
I bet a lot of you guys have your 2009 planner on top of your desk, if not in your laptop. A planner is useful as we write down our intentions and goals and make them happen in a timely and organized manner. What goals am I going to achieve for this year? How will it be for my family, profession, local organization, and for my own self? Which country should I travel? How much should I save? Should I go for life or medical insurance? How will I make a career advancement? What projects should my team come up with for this year? How many JCIPEA points should we earn? These are just a few of the many common questions that you and I encounter one way or another in writing our goals for the new year. Looking back I found joy as a young leader in achieving the goals of our local organization movement during my term as 2008 President with the aptly crafted theme FOLLOW THRU TO BE BETTER. BRAINSTORMING by the pool during strat-planning last November 2007.
The realization happened not by accident but with the burning passion to create positive change ... from the board of directors and members of the chapter, and with the support from friends of JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel. Networking came into play in establishing partners for the implementation of various LOM projects. These provided opportunities to expand, and establish new partners that support the objective of creating positive change. These include the visit of and twinning ceremony with South Korea’s Nam Daegu, JCI QC Capitol, and more. And so were the tri-media campaign in promoting projects, like live interviews for Creative Young Entrepreneurs Award with deputy chair Ana Pista over DyAB Abante Bisaya, and with DyRF News Director Fred Quiño, JCI Members Henry Tomalabcab of JCI Cebu and Charmaine Ong of JCI Zugbuana.
There are those by reporters from leading local dailies, like Sun*Star, The Freeman and Cebu Daily News. FELLOWSHIP with JCI Nam Daegu (South Korea) in August 2008. JCI is a world of opportunities and this is the organization where I found my greatest joy as a young leader. How about you?
