Matan Porat serenades street kids Cebu’s elite views exhibit of their artwork CEBU CITY (Dec. 19, 2008) – Israeli pianist Matan Porat awed his audience, a mix of Cebu’s elite and street children, in his rendition of the masterpieces of Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt and Ginastera, as the composers would. The Minstrels Rhythm of Hope, composed of former female street children from Paco, Manila, also entertained some 200 guests that filled the seats of Marcelo B. Fernan Cebu Press Center Theatre for “A Christmas Tribute” that Junior Chamber International (JCI) presented with Omnilogy of New York. The concert fulfilled the kick-off of “Bridging The Gap” by JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel that saw for the first time in Cebu the elite gathering in a hall they are used to with street children who could hardly imagine being in such a place to experience what the privileged few would normally have.

She noted that some of the children were bit noisy during the concert. “But we expected that. We were pleased that the guests somehow understood,” she added. ‘Imagine’ Incoming 2009 President Emi Rose R. Parcon told the audience that the concert and the whole “Bridging The Gap” project series characterized the essence of the JCI Vision, Mission and Creed that she shared to them. April Dequito, Omnilogy founder, once an active JCI Zugbuana member, explained the initiative her group took with JCI hopes to realize the aspiration in the song “Imagine” by John Lennon, “and the world will live as one.” Young artists.
