JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel holds Feeding Tour around Brgy. Kamputhaw and has Everything Go in a Fund-Raising Activity for Brgy. Kamputhaw Programs

Strongly believing the JCI tenet “Service to Humanity is the Best work of life”, JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel, led by its President, Jolex Yu Lim, held a Feeding Tour in the depressed areas of its adopted Barangay of Kamputhaw Cebu City. Accompanied by Secretary General and concurrent Kamputhaw Brgy. Councilor Emi Rose Parcon, Vice President for Programs Marlon Ariel Polinar and Immediate Past President Angelo Daniel Parcon, the JCI members weaved along the narrow passageways and walkways to personally deliver food provisions for families last May 25, 2008.

Incidentally, the area which benefited the food distribution by the JCI local organization was celebrating its fiesta. Unfortunately, not all of those living in these areas were privileged enough to have something to eat despite the sitio-wide celebration of the feast. The members of JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel found the practice of having a feeding program by cooking food in one area and having hundreds of children line up with virtually no control whatsoever on whoever lines up as something very less intimate. They came up with the decision that if ever there should be a feeding program, it should take some sincerity and passion on the part of those who are willing to give to the less fortunate. Thus the Feeding Tour was conceptualized. In this manner, the members will be cooking the food themselves and will be packing these in separate food containers for distribution amongst the families that are deemed below the poverty line as assisted by members of the Gender and Development Staff of Barangay Kamputhaw.

Even President Jolex's son, Andre got the chance to go around with his dad while serving the food packages amidst the balmy weather. Despite the occasional trickles of rainfall, the activity went smoothly without a hitch. What made it all the more special for the JCI members is having to see the faces of the beneficiaries light up as JCI members personally delivered their food at their very doorsteps.

Earlier during the day, the members took part in the Ukay-ukay Sale at the Lola Liang's Food Shop. This was a fund-raising program by members of JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel as they donated several boxes of slightly used clothing to be sold at very cheap prices to residents of Brgy. Kamputhaw. The project was aimed at providing more funding to programs that would also benefit the residents of the said Barangay. 3M Commissioner Irish Rago was the first to answer the call for support as she arrived together with her kids and husband Louie (who's also slowly getting to enjoy being a new member of the chapter) bringing boxes of clothing and some toys. Also chipping in to the stacks of items to be sold was chapter adviser Lorelei Maimai Dasmariñas, also bringing in several boxes of designer clothing. The Calamohoy's, VP Eric and Donna donated handbags of different sort which even enticed the members themselves to purchase some of the items.

All in all, May 25 marked a successful day for JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel members and its Community-based programs. Programs that would help enliven and strengthen the cause of the Kamputhawanons of Cebu City. A day which steeled the JCI Tenet Service to Humanity is the Best Work of Life.
