Our Story - JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel in a nutshell

FRESH from the 2005 Davao National Convention and inspired by JCI ACHIEVE that he took during the 2005 JCI Philippines Academy in Davao City, JCI Mem Cerwin T. Eviota, NG, had proposed to repackage JCI Mactan Dagami to make it fit the profile he had in mind as he learned from the new JCI program for chapter development.

The founder of that LOM created in 1998 at first welcomed the idea and Eviota's parallel proposal to purge the LOM's roster of membership to give it a fresh re-start, and encouraged Eviota to proceed with his plan to form a core group.

Eviota sold the new idea to his 2001 and 2002 BOD batchmates in JCI Cebu, who have since 2003 been inactive from JCI, the past EVP of JCI Candahug Liberation in Tacloban City who has relocated by professional call in Cebu and two recent past national presidents of the Philippine Junior Jaycees.

But on the day before the core would have its organizational meeting on October 19, 2005, the founder of the other LOM changed his mind and wanted to keep the original LOM name for reasons significant to him and his clan. As he saw the progress Eviota and the core team had accomplished, he instead encouraged them to pursue creating a new LOM.

Synergy

Majority in the core group wanted the name "Mactan Channel" but the First GMM on November 4, 2005 defined the LOM name as JCI "Cebu-Mactan Channel," with Cebu and Mactan linked by a hyphen to define the LOM's constituency.

Literally, it represents the bridges that link the two islands.

Figuratively, it signifies unity and synergy.

The three inter-related objectives ...

. To create a LOM that truly upholds JCI ideals and discipline;

. To maximize the JCI 3M formula in building the new LOM; and

. To adopt the JCI ACHIEVE strategies in developing the LOM

... produced a new LOM with 25 active and passionate charter members, thirsty to become better entrepreneurial leaders, who have undertaken even Herculean high-impact projects that all truly generated positive changes.

The core team that assumed as Board of Directors with the mandate of the LOM membership charted a course that would massively build up members from the beginning and gradually continue build up the LOM's base using the JCI 3M formula.

Start-up strategy

The team devised a simple schedule of just having a GMM, a BODM, a seminar and one major activity in a month, in part to prevent being burned out and to balance quality time for God, family, work and JCI, and leisure, too.

It supplemented these with motivational communication tools to keep everyone in touch.

Parallel with recruitment that followed the guidance provided by JCI ACHIEVE, the team prepared a workable program for membership development. It also assured their involvement in projects to make them feel at home with and truly and integral part of the emerging LOM and JCI itself.

Being in its charter year, the LOM gave weight to individual development through trainings and exposure in projects to equip members with the necessary tools and test them with hands on. The leadership focused next on community development that the veterans in the BOD saw as doable way to apply what the members learn from trainings.

The leadership nonetheless kept the balance in the total JCI formation of the members with programs that promoted their acumen in business and initiatives that has begun to open their doors for international linkages.

The 2007 Administration

Taking cue from the very successful Charter year, Eviota's SG -- JCI Mem. Angelo Daniel R. Parcon -- a past National Secretary General of the Philippine Junior Jaycees, took over the reins of the very young and fledgling chapter.

Armed with an incredible mixture of youth, dynamism and passion with the 2007 BOD and the fiery wisdom from his battery of advisers, Parcon immediately buckled down to work during the last quarter of the year 2006. He formulated a program to recruit his former colleagues from the Philippine Junior Jaycees to bring in an unbridled passion for the movement that would further augment the well-oiled machinery of the members of JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel.

The year also marked the formation of a very formidable JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel Chapter Training Team composed of the Charter President -- a National Graduate of JCI University, adopted member and JCI Cebu Hara 2005 President Lorelei "Maimai" M. Dasmariñas -- a Certified National Graduate and 2007 Visayas Area Training Director, and IPVP Maria Theresa "Matet" B. Calibugan -- a PRIME Graduate and 2007 Central Visayas Regional Training Director.

This signaled a relentless movement towards training and individual development for the members all throughout the year. During the 3rd Quarter, Vice President for Programs JCI Mem. Jolex Yu Lim joined the Training Team after graduating from PRIME in Cagayan de Oro in July.

The 27th Visayas Area Conference in Catbalogan City, Samar last Sept. 7-9, 2007 came to prove the value that JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel has become. The chapter swept 9 major awards and a merit, landed 3rd best in the Visayas in terms of JCI Philippines Efficiency Awards points and 7th over-all nationwide.

Now, it is up to the 2008 Administration led by President-elect Jolex Yu Lim and his 2008 team to blaze a trail for the Local Organization. Well-equipped with his knowledge and experience as a trainer and assisted by his two very reliable VP's in Marlon (Programs) and Rose (Development), and their 2008 BOD Members and Commissioners, JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel is well on its way to surpassing the success of its freshman and sophomore years.

Past Awards the Local Organization since its 2006 Charter Year:

THE 2006 JCI Philippines 58th NATCON AWARDS: Merits for Most Outstanding New JCI Chapter and for Best Community Development Program, and Recognitions for Best Membership Recruitment Program and Most Outstanding Chapter President (CTE).

Greetings from JCI World Headquarters and congratulations for the high spirit
you all have in making the impact in your community.
Congratulations also for
such nice website; where we can feel the energy and enthusiasm of each one of
you.
Just one comment if I may. During the General Assembly held at the JCI
World Congress in New Delhi/India, we approved the JCI SPC-Strategic Planning
Committee report. And while I was going through your website, I noticed that
there are some parts that need to be updated according to what was approved by
the General Assembly in New Delhi.
You can find the SPC report at

avatar Thank you, JCI SG Edson!

Our members who are behind this website will certainly
adhere to your advise.

I have witnessed our leaders now under 2009 President MM
have been adopting and promoting the new JCI Vision and Mission.

They have
often discussed during GMM and BODM about following the JCI SPC recommendations
as the GA had approved in New Delhi.

JCI Cebu-Mactan Channel is attuned with
JCI WHQ.

Mabuhi ka!
