World peace is neither an illusion nor an elusive dream. It is an achievable goal and a worthy endeavor.
A sociological analysis of all forms of conflict in the world will always point to the lack of tolerance and understanding of each other_s differences as the main cause. Lack of understanding stems from the lack of knowledge and exposure of each other_s cultures.
In sum,
Lack of knowledge leads to lack of understanding.
Lack of understanding breeds to lack of tolerance.
Lack of tolerance yields to conflict.
Addressing the lack of knowledge is the first step towards expanding and raising the level of tolerance among races.
And
Since we cant teach old dogs new tricks,
Since we cant influence the older generations as much as the younger ones,
We focus more on molding the youth rather than espouse philosophies to who have certain mindsets about life already.
Our national hero Jose P. Rizal was right. The hope of our fatherland is in our youth. And not just in our fatherland, but the whole world_s hope lies in the young.
But how do improve the knowledge, understanding and perspective of the young?
You teach them how to learn. You teach them to love learning. You teach them to read.
You teach them love for reading.
Teaching love for reading is not just in donating books but also providing consistent, relevant and deep impact stimuli that will entice kids to read books without further prodding.
